The project deals with the expansion of the existing capacities of a hotel located in the Austrian Alps near the border with Italy. The project involves the construction of a spacious ground floor garage immediately adjacent to the existing hotel building. An underground level is also planned under one section of the garage, which will provide additional parking spaces, storage rooms, and technical areas. On the garage roof, which is walkable and partially covered with green spaces, there is a new restaurant with a bar.
The expansion was implemented using solid construction techniques, which essentially means the use of reinforced concrete (RC) and masonry. The foundation is shallow and is primarily done through strip and point foundations, while some smaller parts of the structure are supported on foundation slabs. The walls consist primarily of reinforced concrete hollow-core walls, which were not part of our responsibilities. Masonry walls, as well as cast on-site RC walls and columns were also used. The slabs are mainly cast-in-place RC slabs, while limited use was made of precast "filigree" slabs. The staircase for the evacuation of the garage is a single-flight cast-in-place RC staircase.
