The extension is not connected to the existing structure and forms a structurally independent unit. The building was constructed using solid materials, primarily reinforced concrete and masonry. The foundations are based on wide strips and strong spread footings with a thin floor plate mainly of constructive function. The floor slabs are cast-in-situ reinforced concrete slabs. They are supported inside by reinforced concrete beams and columns and at the edges by load-bearing masonry walls. The roof is flat and enclosed on all sides by reinforced concrete parapets.
A single-flight reinforced concrete staircase is provided for vertical communication. The stair treads are separated from the rest of the structure to improve sound insulation. They are not prefabricated, however, but cast-in-place. The exterior stairs are made of steel and were not part of our project requirements.
